Entrance requirements

Below you will find all the entrance requirements for admission to Marianopolis College, depending on your schooling, your level of English and French proficiency, and your prospective program of study. Please read each of the sections below carefully to understand the entrance requirements that apply to your situation.

Due to the limited space at the College and the large number of applications we receive each year, we cannot accept every applicant who meets the minimum requirements. The averages and grades shown below reflect students who have previously been admitted to the various programs offered at Marianopolis and serves as a guideline for future admissions. For some applications or in some instances, the Admissions Office may contact you for clarification about your academic record.

  • QUEBEC APPLICANTS

    The basic entrance requirement for applicants from Quebec high schools is the Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (Diplôme d’études secondaire), including:

    • Secondary V Language of Instruction (English or Français)
    • Secondary V Second Language (French, Second Language or Anglais, langue seconde)
    • Secondary IV Mathematics
    • Secondary IV Science and Technology or Secondary IV Technological and Scientific Applications
    • Secondary IV History and Citizenship Education

    Additional entrance requirements depend on your level of English and French proficiency and your prospective program of study – please see the sections below.

  • CANADIAN APPLICANTS (OUTSIDE QUEBEC)

    Applicants from Canadian institutions outside Quebec must at least be in the process of completing Grade 11 or 12 at the time of application:

    • Alberta: General High School Diploma – Grade 11 (67-100 credits)
    • British Columbia: High School Graduation Diploma – Grade 11
    • Manitoba: High School Diploma – Grade 11 (minimum 13 credits)
    • New Brunswick: High School Graduation Diploma – Grade 12 (minimum 12 credits or 13 credits, depending on regime)
    • Newfoundland: High School Graduation Diploma – Grade 11 (minimum 24 credits)
    • Nova Scotia: High School Certificate – Grade 11 (minimum 12 credits)
    • Ontario: Ontario Secondary School Diploma – Grade 11 (minimum 22 credits)
    • Prince Edward Island: General High School Diploma – Grade 11 (minimum 12 credits)
    • Saskatchewan: High School Graduation Diploma – Grade 11 (minimum 16 credits)
  • INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

    Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents must obtain two immigration documents to study at the college level: a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and a Canadian Study Permit. Valid copies of both documents are required to begin classes. The College encourages applicants to apply for these documents as soon as they receive their letter of acceptance.     Applicants from international institutions must provide documentation demonstrating an academic background equivalent to the Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (Diplôme d’études secondaires) and be in their final year of (non-technical) secondary studies. A Comparative Evaluation from the Quebec Ministry of Immigration is not required.

    France
    Students in the French system (outside of Quebec) must be completing their Première class level to be eligible to apply. They must also be completing courses that are equivalent to any required program prerequisite course. Students from French system schools in Montreal, Collège international Marie de France and Collège Stanislas, must be completing their Seconde class level and any required program prerequisite complement courses. These students must successfully pass the Québec Histoire-Éducation Citoyenneté course and request that their school provide them with their final grades and an equivalence letter from the Quebec Ministry of Education. All documents should then be submitted to Marianopolis College.

    International Baccalaureate (IB)
    Students in the IB system must be completing Grade 11 or Grade 12 and at least in the first year of the diploma program. They must also be completing courses that are equivalent to any required program prerequisite course.

    United States
    American high school students (whether in the United States or abroad) must be completing Grade 11 or Grade 12 to be eligible to apply. They must also be completing courses that are equivalent to any required program prerequisite course. For example, Science and Arts and Sciences applicants must be in the process of completing grade 11 Pre-Calculus Honours and Grade 12 Chemistry AP and Physics AP.

    United Kingdom
    Students in the British system must be completing the equivalent of Grade 11 or Grade 12 and either preparing for or having already taken their GCSEs to be eligible to apply. They must also be completing courses that are equivalent to any required program prerequisite courses.

    Other
    Students from other international educational systems are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • TRANSFER APPLICANTS

    Applicants wishing to transfer from another Quebec college or Cégep must demonstrate acceptable standing in their present studies and must satisfy all entrance prerequisites necessary for each desired program of study at Marianopolis College. Transfer credits are not guaranteed. Transfer students must have completed no more than 50% of their course requirements at another college or Cégep, provide a Transfer Student Interim Evaluation form for their current semester and submit a brief letter of intent explaining why they would like to transfer.

    The Transfer Student Interim Evaluation form serves as a progress report to evaluate your academic performance in college courses at the time of application. If progress grades are unavailable, please have your professor include a note on the form regarding your current progress.

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    English placement test
    All students are required to write an English placement test to place them in the appropriate course stream. This occurs after you receive your offer of admission, and you confirm your spot. You may be required to take remedial or reinforcement courses and/or to follow a reduced course load if it is determined that your English skills are not adequate.

    English proficiency test
    You must write an English proficiency test only if you have studied in English for less than three years in high school in a non-English speaking country.

    Your English proficiency test results should be submitted by November 1 for the Winter semester and March 1 for the Fall semester. These tests are conducted externally, and schedules and availability may vary. We recommend scheduling an appointment to take the test while completing your application. The College accepts the following English proficiency tests for admission purposes:

    TOEFL

    • The TOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language, the premier test of academic English communication, trusted worldwide
    • Minimum required score: 90 (21 or higher in each category) on the Internet-based test (IBT)

    IELTS ACADEMIC 

    • The IELTS is the International English Language Testing System
    • Minimum required score: 6.5 on the IELTS Academic

    CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY C1 ADVANCED (CAE) or C2 PROFICIENCY (CPE)

  • FRENCH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    French placement
    You will be placed in the appropriate French course stream according to your situation. You may be required to take remedial or reinforcement courses and/or to follow a reduced course load if it is determined that your French skills are not adequate.

    French proficiency test
    You must write a French proficiency test if:

    • You are completing your high school studies outside of Quebec (including Francophone countries or programs) and do not have a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
    • You attend English high school in Quebec but do not have a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and are not taking the course Français langue d’enseignement.
    • You are applying to the Arts and Sciences program (even if you have a CoE) and are not taking the course Français langue d’enseignement.

    Your French proficiency test results should be submitted by December 20 for the Winter semester and May 1 for the Fall semester. These tests are conducted externally, and schedules and availability may vary. We recommend scheduling an appointment to take the test while completing your application. The College accepts the following French proficiency tests for admission purposes:

    DELF B2 – SCOLAIRE OR TOUT PUBLIC

    • Minimum required score overall: 67 on 100
    • Minimum required score for Compréhension des écrits: 13 on 25
    • Minimum required score for Production écrite: 13 on 25
    • DELF B2, C1, C2 are also accepted.

    TCF – TOUT PUBLIC

    • Required modules:  Compréhension écrite, Compréhension orale, Maîtrise des structures de la langue, Expression écrite
    • Minimum required score overall: 467 on 699
    • Minimum required score for Compréhension écrite: 467 on 699
    • Minimum required score for Maitrise des structures de la langue: 467 on 699
    • Minimum required score for Expression écrite: 13 on 20
    • TCF Quebec and TCF Canada are not accepted tests.

    TEF

    • Required modules: Compréhension écrite, Compréhension orale, Lexique/Structure, Expression écrite
    • Minimum required score overall: 467 on 699
    • Minimum required score for Compréhension écrite: 467 on 699
    • Minimum required score for Lexique/Structure: 467 on 699

    • TEF Express, TEF Quebec and TEF Canada are not accepted tests.
