Marianopolis Student Wins College Writers Award
November 2023 – Marianopolis graduate Katherine Li ’23 was honoured at the 25th Quebec Writers’ Federation Awards Gala earlier this week.
Her short story “Efflorescence” earned the College Writers Award for outstanding literary achievement by a student at Champlain, Dawson, Heritage, John Abbot, Marianopolis or Vanier.
The award sees her receive a cash prize of $1,000 and the chance to publish her short story in carte blanche, the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s online literary journal.
Katherine Li was one of three Marianopolis alumni nominated for awards by the Quebec Writers’ Federation this year. Class of 2007 graduate Alex Manley was shortlisted for the 2023 Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction for his book “The New Masculinity: A Roadmap for a 21st Century Definition of Manhood,” while class of 1992 graduate and Liberal Arts faculty Vanessa R. Sasson was shortlisted for the 2023 Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for her novel “The Gathering.”
