Liberal Arts Professor Celebrates Launch of New Book with College Community
August 2023 – Liberal Arts faculty, students and alumni were at the College Library on Wednesday evening to celebrate the launch of “The Gathering,” the latest novel by Religious Studies professor Vanessa Sasson.
Uma Iqbal’18 and Athena Kalaganis, who have studied under Professor Sasson, led a discussion and Q & A about the novel.
“The Gathering” explores the lives and experiences of early Buddhist women, combining Professor Sasson’s in-depth historical research and scholarship of Buddhist narrative traditions with vivid story telling. The book is currently available for purchase at Paragraph bookstore.
Professor Sasson first launched the novel earlier this summer in Seoul, South Korea, where she presented before the 18th Sakyadhita International Conference.
The College is exceedingly fortunate to count on faculty like Professor Sasson. While making important contributions to her field of study, she has helped establish a strong sense of community and camaraderie among Liberal Arts program graduates, current students and faculty, as evident that night.
The Collège would like to congratulate Professor Sasson on the publication of her latest book and thank her for her invaluable contribution to the Liberal Arts program over the past 20 years.
